DeLynne O’Toole, Dean of Students,Curriculum and Instruction, Math

DeLynne O’Toole combines her passion for teaching, her leadership experience and her great business sense to take on her dual role at VIA. DeLynne earned her Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, she worked as an accountant in both New York and Michigan and became a Certified Public Accountant. Pursing her long time desire to be an educator, she returned to the University of Michigan and earned her secondary teaching credential in both math and business. She taught for several years in the Michigan public school system where she had students in all levels of mathematics: from Basic Math to Calculus. She also has experience as a Christian educator and as a business owner.

DeLynne’s true love is teaching young people both about math and about life.s many lessons so it is with great enthusiasm that she comes to VIA each day to be with our students. She lives in the Santa Cruz mountains with her husband and three children. She loves swimming, reading, praying, and spending time with her family.

Wenny Hsieh, English, ELL Support

While studying English and Political Science at U.C. Berkeley, Wenny volunteered as a Writer Coach at Berkeley High School and quickly discovered a love for working with students. She consequently decided to pursue an M.A. in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and had the chance to work with a wide variety of students in New York City. After returning to the temperate climes of California, she taught reading and writing as an Empowerment teacher at Making Waves Education Program in Richmond. Wenny enjoys making and sharing food with others, befriending stray cats, chasing after food trucks, and appreciating the beauty and power of words.

David Koppel, History, Social Studies, Government

David Koppel has been an educator for thirteen years and received his teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Prior to VIA, he taught high school students at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco and Irvington High School in Fremont. In addition, David teaches SAT classes with Excel Test Prep throughout the Bay Area. He received his BA in theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his MFA in acting from the Yale School of Drama. In 2006, David founded Arclight Repertory Theatre of San Jose and currently serves as its artistic director. This nonprofit performing arts organization produces San Jose's only summer Shakespeare festival, develops original plays and offers theatre education workshops to underserved youth throughout Santa Clara County. David is a Bay Area native whose parents are retired high school teachers from the Fremont Unified School District. Their ability to make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of young people serves as his personal inspiration in the classroom.

Jason Lo, Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Jason has taught high school science for two years. He is credentialed in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and has a Bachelor's Degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Jason also has experience working with children as an individual tutor and as a staff member of the Saratoga High School Marching Band. In his spare time, Jason is an avid follower of professional and college sports and is a die-hard supporter of the California Golden Bears. He plays the piano and French horn and enjoys card and video games.
